Knight Ezri had no guarantee of safety. Every decision she made—running through enemy territory, climbing trees to scout, even hiding above unsuspecting soldiers—was laced with risk. Yet she pressed forward, driven by duty, wisdom, and courage.
Her actions mirror the Christian life. As believers, we are called to walk by faith in a world full of danger, uncertainty, and hostility. Often, doing what is right leads us into uncomfortable or even perilous situations. But true courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s obedience in the presence of it.
Ezri’s resolve reminds us of what it means to keep going when the path is unclear, the cost is high, and the enemy seems to grow stronger by the hour.
Key Verse (WEB)
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed; for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.”
—Joshua 1:9 (WEB)
Ezri didn’t know if the boy had betrayed her. She didn’t know if the Rootlash would be unleashed on her people. She didn’t even know if she’d survive the night. But she kept going. Like Joshua leading Israel into the Promised Land, she moved forward, trusting that preparation and purpose would carry her through.
As Christians, we don’t move forward because the road is easy. We move forward because God is with us.
When you find yourself in unfamiliar or threatening circumstances—when it feels like the darkness around you is deep and the enemy is advancing—remember Ezri’s example and, more importantly, the command God gave to Joshua: be strong and courageous. Not because of your strength, but because of God’s presence.
Reflection Questions
- When have you faced a situation that felt risky or uncertain, but you knew God was calling you to move forward anyway?
- How does knowing God is with you change the way you face fear?
- Are there any “spiritual ravines” you’re running through now—situations that feel dark or dangerous?
- How can you prepare spiritually, like Ezri prepared physically, to face what lies ahead?
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for being with me in every season—especially in the dark and uncertain places. Give me courage when I feel afraid, wisdom when I don’t know what to do, and faith to keep moving forward even when the path is unclear. May I press on with purpose, trusting that You are leading me through. Strengthen my heart and help me to live bravely for You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
