Chapter 10 – Strength in Service

Ezri’s journey to the mountain and her encounter with the border sentry reveal important lessons about strength, rest, and purpose. Though exhausted and battered, she knew the wisdom of resting well—“a dull blade doesn’t cut well.” Sometimes, when the weight of responsibility presses hard, we want to rush on without pause. But God teaches us that rest is essential to be effective in our calling.

Ezri also shows us what it means to serve with integrity and courage. Despite being dirty, tired, and tested, she carries the truth of her mission with steadfastness. When questioned about her loyalty, she doesn’t rely on words alone but lets her actions and resolve speak. True service is not about appearances but about faithfulness and heart.

Her conversation with the young soldier reminds us that gifts and abilities—whether great or humble—are tools God gives us for His purposes. Like Ezri’s wand, which is powerful yet bound by responsibility, our talents are not for selfish pride but to serve the King and His kingdom.

In our own lives, God calls us to rest well, walk faithfully, and use what He has given us wisely. Whether great or small, every role in His kingdom matters.

Key Verse

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
— Joshua 1:9 (WEB)

Reflection Questions

  1. Why is rest important before facing a big challenge?
  2. How did Ezri show her loyalty to the kingdom, even when questioned?
  3. What does your “wand” or special gift look like? How can you use it to serve others?
  4. How can you be strong and courageous like Ezri in your own life?
  5. What does it mean to serve with humility and faithfulness, no matter how “dirty” or difficult things get?

Prayer

Dear God,
Thank You for reminding me that rest is important to be strong and ready for what You ask me to do. Help me to be faithful and brave, even when things are hard or when others doubt me. Teach me to use the gifts and talents You’ve given me to serve You and others well. Walk with me always and give me courage to do what is right.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
