Chapter 16 – When Darkness Looms, Trust the Light

Ezri and her comrades face an enemy more terrifying than before—rooted beasts, relentless soldiers, and now shadows born of darkness itself. The air grows heavy with dread, and the very ground seems to tremble under the weight of unseen evil.

Yet, even as the Rootlash retreat and the shadows advance, there is a strange moment of hope: the wands vibrate, signaling the presence of something greater at work. It’s like a reminder in the darkest moments, that God’s light is never far away—even when we cannot see it clearly.

In our lives, we too face “shadowy” fears and challenges that threaten to overwhelm us. But the Bible assures us that God’s presence is a protective, unseen power stronger than any evil (Psalm 23:4). When the path is dark, and the battle seems hopeless, we can trust that He is with us, shining light into the shadows.

Ezri’s story reminds us to watch carefully and listen to the gentle warnings God sends—even when fear threatens to paralyze us—and to stand firm, trusting His unseen hand.

Key Verse

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
— Psalm 23:4 (WEB)

  1. What strange things happened to the Rootlash and the Blue Army?
  2. Why did the wands start vibrating, and what might that mean?
  3. Have you ever felt scared but then remembered God was with you? How did that help?
  4. How can knowing God is with us change the way we face hard or scary times?
  5. What “shadows” or fears do you need to trust God with today?

Prayer

Dear God,
Thank You that You are with us even when we cannot see You clearly. When darkness and fear come close, remind us that Your light and protection are stronger than anything scary. Help us to trust You and feel Your comfort like a steady hand holding us tight. Give us courage to stand firm, even in the dark valleys of life, knowing You go before us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
